………………………………………………………………JACKPOT JANUARY
The fun filled Fishing that started early in January still continued after a break of 10 days when of my friend from konkan whom I had promised three months back that I will come to his place for the annual festival at the village shrine and also show him how I fish with a rod n reel (at present he is a hand liner ,Anxious to start shaking his rod like the lion ) the annual festival lasted 3days and my Host Mr. Naik was busy all three days , 25 goats were slaughtered to feed 10,000 devotees ,but Lion was more interested in making a kill for himself having looked at the topographical map of the area , I decided to head to a place which appealed to my ferocious nature and upon reaching there I saw two anglers ( unknown faces) loitering around with the rod n reel , I walked up to them and greeted " Hello there ! How 's your fishing ? Any catches ? They were clearly not pleased to see me there ! One of them gave me an annoyed look as if I was trespassing on his grandma's garden he than made an animated face and said Noooo noothing !! I am amused at the git's reply as I could see a half kg snapper neatly wrapped in a plastic bag kept besides him , a little further I was surprised to see two familiar faces emerge from behind the rocky structure now they looked like real Anglers and suddenly I realized they were my facebook friends from pune !! We had never met in person before , we exchange a few pleasantries and they left quickly as it was getting hotter at noon and the tide had also gone out , I decided to survey the area while the two chaps from south Mumbai who had also come for the festival were hand lining with a peacock straw and small hook and they got busy in catching small rabbit fish of 200-300gms from noon till sunset 34 juvenile rabbit fish were pulled out I am using big hooks and bigger baits the chaps are ecstatic of their achievements and begin teasing me " Lion did not get any fish, he is having a black day !! ha ha haa " is the common sentence Ajit the roadside mechanic use to tell his drunkard boss Zaalim Khan of south Mumbai who is more of a beach comber looking for crabs with his faithful dog Wolf D'fellow ( Dirty fellow ) ,I remember throwing them out of my friends list and blocking them as they were only interested in knowing my fishing locations ! I usually never fish with such a sorry lot ! but it was my host who invited them
day 2 the chaps get around 8 snappers of half kg range after 2days and I am still sticking to big hooks and lure fishing for that something big & special that was eluding me the catch of 1stday out of 34 fish only half was consumed and half is spoilt rotten ! Now this cheap shot Ajit sold the day2's catch in the auction market for 900rupees only to have a good time with the money ! Again new catches were sold for 500rs !! Disgusting Cheapness ! ! Is all I could see!! how can you say fishing is a hobby and sell your catches for money ? and this cheap shot was my room mate for 3 days, I was on a state of constant alert for the fear of my tackle being stolen
again when I was ridiculed of no catches this time I decided my put my foot down and remind the galoots that they and their grandpa combined are yet to catch half the quantity of fish that I had expelled thru my system LOL and fishing for the small ones for me seemed like I am sitting again in a 5th std classroom after completing my degree in Marathi there is a saying " khail tar tupashi nahi tar rahil upashi " for me Quality of the catch is what that matters rather than Quantity , I'd rather not catch any fish than do what I stopped doing 33 years back so while casting no luck for lion in 2 days
Day 3 evening : my critics get smacked in the face when I pull out a 3.5kg shiny blood red Mangrove Jack on lure , the Hex is broken
With the 3day festival now ended , I thank my host Mr Naik & Amol Mistry and decide to move out by calling a businessman friend of mine from Mumbai who is Eveready hopping on one leg to go fishing with me he reaches me in the wee hours of morning and we move out to our favorite hunting ground with a mission to Entice , Engage & Apprehend !!
O boy ! O boy ! the action was explosive !! Two lures were lost and Hooks were straightened !! I better not say anything more , you just see it for your selves (pssst Lion was the only angler to land fish on lures ,while the rest of the lot were bait costing on phishing raads
No matter how high n
mighty you are underwater ! You don't mess with the Lion ! !
Else you end up on
his plate
petty catches that were sold for easy money
My local friend Amol Mistry is a Champion cricketer in the region
Wearing the Cloak of
darkness the Lion picked out his prey one-by-one
Hooks were straightened , giants were lost , Lots of drama unfolded in the dark
2 feet long mighty MJs
My host Mr A. Naik with his catch
chota Naik !
I call him Chulbul Pandey he too got his first fish a Trevally on a handline
Will somebody tell
me what Charming powers do I have, that
makes these beauties undress and move
naked around me
If you want catches like these ! don't forget to take the Ashirwad of Tamboshi BaBa sitting below
With his Ashirwad your fish will fight amongst themselves for some space in your Ice Box ( see below )
The Fast and the Furious Lion simply Loves to cuddle the Young and the Restless
This one loves to nibble my collar , he even loves to lick out my sunscreen lol
Specials Thanks to Mr A. Naik and Mr Amol Mistry for hosting the Lion
note:
