TIPS for FISHING in MUMBAI

Tips n Places of FISHING in MUMBAI

Big Thanks to all you  guys for sending me  so many mails apreciating my catches and some of you guys have repeatedly asked for  fishing locations in and around Mumbai {Bombay}  and I had promised to post  a thread  disclosing some of the  Fishing Locations  around mumbai
Well  guys  your wait is over  giggle  here they are

Click on the pictures  for a closer look
satellite  pictures of marve beach -Malad , Mumbai

This is the first and the Most productive spot for Big Barramundi mostly above the 9kg range  is this place called Marve Beach the Gps co-ordinates are shown in the picture so you will have no difficulty in reaching there  whatsoever ,the best days  to fish at this place according to the Hindu calendar are the 9th, 10th, 11th,12th & 13th localy known as  navami ,dashmi, baras & teras{ all dates mentioned are of hindu calendar dates and not of gregorian calendar}  the best times to fish there is night time after 11pm  till  4am  when the  tide starts recceding  the barras arrive in groups from the left side of the beach  that’s  where the sea water comes in to the estuary  and you can actually hear them feed on the surface  just look out for the thooof  sound that’s  the barra ambushing the  surface mullets from below,
Keep a  6 kg drag on your reel  and use any of these lures only ---> Rapala skitter pop medium size ,  Halco roosta popper medium or  small , Storm chug bug medium  or  any subsurface lure weighing around 33grams  and no deep diver  or sinking lures , recommended line is 65lbs braid   and only angling not bait fishing is recommended there unless you like catching  small cat fish on baits
Beleive me Guys  if You are lucky You can bag a Barramundi as big as this or even  much much Bigger  one  giggle
The big Mumbai Barra I caught sometime back

the second spot to fish is on the opposite side of Marve ---> Manori  the picture below shows the location to fish

the third  spot is called Erangal which is just a couple of kilometers from the Marve beach point
now this is also another very productive fishing spot here  you can do angling as well as bait fishing ,
if you get lucky on lure you can hook any of the following  Barramundi ,  Rawas { Threadfin Salmon}, Mangrove jack or Grouper

Erangal point on the left & Marve beach point on the right in this picture

One can also do bait fishing at erangal   the recommended baits are sardines ,mackerals, prawns or squids  use medium size 9 no hooks
And  the most Important  thing to remember at Erangal  is to go fishing  on the outgoing tide Only
Never on the incoming tide or you will be stranded  on the rocks with water water every where and not a drop to drink-  he he heeeeeeeee

And  there are also many other less productive places like the Bandra bandstand rocks   or under the bandra worli sealink  or behind the Haji Ali shrine or  the Gateway of INDIA  prominade that goes all the way to marine drive  or the geeta nagar slums of colaba

Caution : Be aware of a scabies infected rabid Bulldog moving  around the marve beach , he is very possesive about the barras of marve  , he very wrongly thinks that Marve beach and its Barras are his grandma's private property  Twisted Evil Twisted Evil people say " he is mad about barras " what a silly creature !!  Laughing Laughing
{ ha haa haa I was just kidding Laughing no need to worry about the dog , he is all bark and no bite Razz  and you can always throw a rotten bone at him and  instantly he will call you master and lick your feet Razz   }

I wouldn’t  advise you to consume the fish you catch from these heavily polluted toxic  waters of mumbai  so after  a few Kodak moments release it back and the fish will bless you for that  the last time  I caught a big Barra I simply distributed  the meat amongst the  poor & destitute slum dwellers living at the traffic signal
So If you really want to enjoy eating your catch then its time to head towards clear blue waters of Konkan
and I am certainly not revealing all the Secret Fishing Locations today !!! ha ha haaaaaaaaa
Good luck on your trips ,happy fishing & tight lines upyeah

  16. Hi Amit,
Always remember when you are fishing with you girl then select a place which is not deserted and easily accessible in case you need help, I would suggest you Marve beach at madh after sunset , that's where you can fish on the water front near the INS Hamla boundary and behind you on the beach you'll find dozens of couples busy in other fishy activities lol... hope that shouldn't distract you ;-)
Best of Luck & Happy Fishing

  17. Hi Lionheart,
My wife and I are travelling to Mumbai in early March would and we would like to go fishing. Is there a fishing charter you can recommend?
    Thanks!

    ReplyDelete

    1. Hi,
To my knowledge there are no registered fishing charters in Mumbai, just some unreliable private boatman making secret trips.
I would suggest you Goa, there are several charters operating and you'll get to choose according to your need
      happy fishing

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Hi Royston,
yes you can do lure fishing at Erangal that's the favourite hangout for Rawas , just be wary of submerged nets placed mischievously within the casting range of anglers !
they collect more lures than fish :-P

      Delete
  20. Can we also lure fish at manori, can I use poppers or soft plastics

    ReplyDelete
  21. Hey Royston
yes you can use lures, poppers and soft baits near the gagangiri maharaj ashram, some very good size barramundis has been pulled out from there
    Best of luck

    1. Walaikum Salaam,

Nice to know you Fahad :) you've asked a one line request of guidance for sea fishing on spot, bait, time...etc
To really do justice to your one question which covers almost all about sea fishing, I'll have to write a really lengthy answer to that and time doesn't permit me to do so , hence I'd request you to type the following on Google search
      : Types of Saltwater fishing
: Types of baits for Saltwater fishing
: Best timings for sea fishing
      etc etc....
hope you shall be enlightened enough to a successful start
do feel free to share your fishing experience with us on this blog

  29. Hii lionheart i read this blog for tips of fishing places in mumbai and it seems to be very interesting to me. This blog shows the three point of fishing which is closed to each other of Malad Seaside's. I had visited the first and third point which you had marked in Google maps in this blog.

But i had not visited the 2nd point which is mentioned in the map is opposite to manori. I had made a walking distance upto samudreshwara dutta mandir which had a gate on entrance and i did not see any auto/bike go across the gate. How do we go through there, By walking; By auto through another route or bike by another route..????

    And I had few questions.:

Is this place is on hill side or had big rocks, As the rocks is looking bigger in the Google map.?

The depht of the water is deeper or shallow.??

And is there the road where we use bike or auto to go there.???

    Plz reply..
Im interested to go there and i am waiting for your reply..!!!!

  34. Hi Lionheart!
Is it possible for you to let us know the time and date, when next you go angling in Mumbai? So all interested like me can join you. Use to do some offshore fishing and with good success. Some of my neighbors would do beach fishing where the waves breaks but they use to also drink right from morning, so avoided them, but in the bargain never enjoyed beach fishing? Will appreciate if you can coordinate a trip. Thanks for understanding

  36. Hi Chirag Patel,
Kalher near Bhiwandi has Vasai creek running beside , since I don't fish in these polluted waters I can't help you much as to what the waters hold there but you can try sardine or prawns as bait and let us know what you find ;-) if you're lucky you might land a Barramundi or else catfish will definitely keep you busy

  37. Good Day LH;

I have been hooked on to fishing as a kid, and was lucky go get started in the Middle East, the love and passion only grew, and like my Dad I got the chance to introduce my son Ethan (12) to fishing@ the age of 5; however we had to move back to India six years back, and ever since I feel between my work and Ethan’s studies (school), this passion of camping and fishing has taken a back seat.

We do manage to get a day of fishing only when we visit Goa, I am missing out on the time I can spend with him, but what hurts me more, is that in the month of May 2017, I took Aaliyah (my 6 year old) who enjoyed the bite (just feeding the fish was fun for her) reading your blog has given me hope, I would like to thank you for the time you take to keep the love for fishing out there, stay blessed, hope you get the time you need to go fishing. Thank you for the lovely introduction of your sweet family ,I am so glad to know that you had a good time fishing with your children, nothing can substitute the priceless memories of a family fishing together ;-) check this link --> http://lionheartangler.blogspot.in/2013/06/the-lion-and-his-pride.html
sadly life has become a little busy these days :-( I now hardly get any time for fishing.
my eyes long for that glimpse of the glittering waters that ride the dancing waves, I frequently gasp for that rich quality salty air that smacks your face and caresses your hair, my doctor says I'm fine but I know I am not ! I have a severe deficiency of Vitamin SEA and I hope someday Time & Tide will favor me and hopefully we'll meet on some beach or rock and brag about our catches for hours ;-p
      wishing you tight lines

There may also some sport fishing mumbai facilities available so you can take the boat to Madh island and fish. The island is said to be producing great catches.
