Lion goes Camping Part-II

………………………………………………………………….Lion goes Camping part-II

It was more than a year since my last Camping cum Fishing  trip  (may2013) and it was about time to make a two day fishy camping trip and this time I choose Sandip Ghosh who always wanted  to go fishing with me in konkan to catch snappers

Sandip who had a few years back  bought  his first rod and reel in my presence,  now has become an avid angler whose passion for Angling can be described thru the following few words   enthusiastic, ardent, dedicated, fervid, overzealous , voracious and insatiable

                                                                                 Day-1

The trip was planned two months in advance sandip was taking along two of his non angler friends Monty and Deepak from his neighborhood   , who were coming  just to enjoy some quality time by the sea and nature  , we started the trip at 4.30 am early morning and we reached the place by late noon, had a hearty meal,  relaxed a bit and then I immediately  ventured out to get my regular dose of Vitamin SEA and of course  along with Vitamin Sea, my secret intention and top most priority was to collect some yummy protein from the Sea after all the lion had not made a kill since the last 4 months and  was itching to hook and cook something from the sea so sandip and myself got busy casting away our troubles out in to the deep blue sea, I was rewarded with a heavyweight Sobaity Seabream it was an absolute Cracker ,you can even say that its the Mother of all  Breams !! if I am not wrong than I think I may be the only Angler in India to have caught this big size of sobaity Bream on Lure   sandip too got dory snappers on his lure, we caught 5 fish in the evening session and moved out before sunset as we had to setup our tent before sundown, selected a quite spot near the sea & away from the locality, the tent was set and now we started cooking dinner don't you guys wanna know the menu for the night ?? I selected two nice plumpy dory snappers to be marinated and butter fried and sandip prepared the khichdi and it was a feast !! Sandip greatly enjoyed the freshly fried snapper for the first time

now we were visited by a couple of curious villagers , earlier sandip had asked me if there are wild animals in the region and I had mentioned him about the sly Foxes, Snakes, Raccoons, Scorpions & on the way we had also seen several mongoose crossing the road now he also asked the locals about the wild nightlife in the area and they promptly declared that our campsite is the pathway for a groups of wild boars who visit the beach  for  water but I knew the boars come to scan the beach for crabmeat and other vegetation such as wild onion bulbs     the news about the wild boars had scared the shh-wits out of both Bunty and Deepak who decided to confine themselves  to the safety of the tin box called Car   no amount of persuasion worked !! And finally me and sandip were left to sleep into the tent.  as you all know that this lion was already born high spirited so he doesn't need any spirits or concoctions of Alcohol to lift his mood but sandip did need a few pegs and after that he was the bravest man on the planet he showed me his Amazon purchased camping axe & assured me that if the wild boars attack in the night, he will be the savior to look out for !!  what !! You guys don't believe me  don't you ???  Ok then ! here is the video you can see it for yourself

As we lay quietly in our Coleman waterproof tent we could hear the howling of the Foxes in a distant they seemed to be playing antakshiri (singing session).  different types of sound were coming from all directions around the tent , mainly high audible conversation of all types of creatures crawling ,creeping, hopping or slithering  and of course we the intruders were the hot topic of their wild discussion :-) then I smartly decided to think of all the howling, croaking , whistling and chirpings around me as sweet lullabies trying to put this Lion to sleep (cool) after all he is called the king of the jungle :-P

(before sleeping I looked at sandip and saw the camping axe right besides him I started to say my prayers but today I had a special request from the LORD Almighty  (pssst ... pls don't tell one  ;-) I asked the LORD not send any pigs or any wild things except women in sandip's dreams fearing that he might start waving the axe in his sleep and end up injuring the lion :-O lolzzz
                                                                      Day-2

All thru the night I found absolute peace, tranquility and serenity as I slept like a baby in lap of Mother nature until it began drizzling at 4am and slowly it turned in to a pouring rain , now me and sandip were awake and aware that all our hopes & fishing plans for the day were in great danger of being washed away with the rains but the first rays of light rekindled our fishy hopes as the rains stopped and we dashed straight to the fishy place , the rocks were all wet n slippery, treading carefully and nice gripping footwear are the absolute necessity in this sport .     here we met two gentlemen Uday and Prashant, they are the Local anglers of the area

I had watched both of them carefully assemble their tackle and pointing towards Prashant I told sandip that this one looks like Tendulkar of this area and very soon he proved me right by pulling out a magnificent Barramundi , I too pulled out a Ravishing Red beauty called Mangrove Jack, Uday caught snappers and trevallies and sandip was also having a field day pulling out the dory snappers and young Trevallies who kept him busy all the time , lol after hooking every young trevally sandip would shout out " this one is BIG very BIG , I would go with the gaff but once out of the water: to his surprise  the big fighting fish would shrink in to a trevally of 1 to 1.5kg     he was clearly dazed and amazed by the power of  these fish   but we all never forgot to congratulate each other at every catch in the True sportsman spirit
we were now friends with the local anglers,  Prashant was kind enough to charge my cell phone at his place,   now monty and deepak being non anglers were getting bored so sandip & me decided to skip the evening session of fishing and take the duo to some sightseeing around the area and tonight sandip and me decided not to let our frightened  companions  again lock themselves inside the suffocating safety of the car so we booked a hotel room for the night and everyone takes a bath after40hrs

                                                                      Day-3 (returning day)

Time had now caught up with us today is our 3rd day and we have to leave but not before deciding to have a quick early session of casting and say goodbye to the friends and fishy place by 10.30am but LOL sandip's one last cast lasted right up till 12.30pm   and that’s perfectly normal ! I have seen almost all young anglers do it , 4 catches of the morning session were gifted to our local friends and we stuffed our selves with one last hearty meal from the area and once again turned towards the stubborn stressful life of the Urban Jungle
Lots of Fishy memories to gloat on and a daily dose of  Fish Tikkawill be buffering the stress for this Lion until he ventures out in the wild again

I am expecting more pictures from sandip and will later add them here  , meanwhile here are some of the pictures that has reached me from our cameramen (monty & deepak)

NOTE : Earlier there were doubts about the identification of the fish, some said its a subaity Bream , some said its not !  and I had invited any angler to  come forward with the proper Identification of the said Fish , Finally it was  Marc knight  who provided us correct information about the fish and now it is positively identified to be a Barred Javelin or Grunter Bream instead of Subaity Bream    and O boy I am glad that at-least I was partially Correct in saying that its from the Bream family

Thank you  Marc knight  for  coming up with the correct information    and I also Thank those angler friends  who also tried hard  searching for the identity of the Fish but were unsuccessful what matters most is the effort put up in the quest of the TRUTH !    GOD BLESS
