..................................................Lion goes South
Recently a South indian friend of mine invited me to be his guest & fish in his native place and the name of the place is KanyaKumari , yes the very famous tourist destination on the southern most tip of the main land of India in the state of Tamil nadu. which is also known as Cape Comorin. Upon hearing the name of the place
the first two names that popped up in my mind were Venky & GT 
, the offer was too tempting to be refused , called venky and chris
but both could not get leave on such short notice , maruthu agreed to
come 
I remember one mad angler 
Chris covering 1051kms by car to come fishing in Murud and Kanyakumari
was 2135 kms far from me ( train route) what the heck ! I know I am a
much bigger mad Angler than Chris and this was time to prove it "
This is my chance to lure the southern beauties" I said to myself and suddenly the Itch to Fish has started to make me restless I had to shake this itch of my rod and so I found myself getting on the Virgin girl Oops
I mean to say KanyaKumari express LOL she looked Hot from outside but was cool on the inside , I did not enjoy riding her 
sitting for 44 long hours made my butt sore n numb 
but Lion can & will bear anything & everything for a goood Fiiiish to play on his Rod 
After reaching there in afternoon I decided to rest
And next day woke up early morning at 4am to go trolling , we went out 25 nautical miles ( that’s what the boat man said) towards sri lanka in search of king fish there are 25 other boats also trolling for kingfish none of us gets a fish so most of the boats return back at 1pm we also are back and after lunch we relax and head for a place which is known as venky's playground ( so kind of Venkatesan to share it with us ) maruthu has reached the place before us and is busy casting , after a quick intro maruthu points towards a particular direction in the left and tells me in his American Accent " Sayed you see those rips currents ! That’s where the fish are and that’s where the predators will be lurking ! there on the left, That’s where You have to cast man. " smiling and nodding , I am all amused as I am used to giving casting tips to new anglers and I hardly get any back
there is nothing wrong in giving tips and sharing knowledge , that’s
what anglers do when they meet , they exchange info and all of it is
fishy & this young man was helping me with his theory and I had
mine to stick to ! I begin to cast on my right and very soon from my
left maruthu declares " fish on " and he lands a 1/2 kg trevally ,
I congratulate him and resume my casting on my right side , it was
now clear that maruthu was targetting the PYT ( Pretty Young Things) & I was confident of attracting the XXL size mature Beauties
from the direction where I was casting and very soon I managed to win
the heart of one such untamed beauty & she showed her wild side by
sucking my lure hard and violently pulling it , instantly my
Adrenaline & Testosterone levels soared to the clouds . I now
wanted to show her that I too can play rough if that’s what she wants 
I gave her a passionate pull and followed it by quick pumping with my stiff popping rod in the process her lips got injured by my thorny lure and that must have turned her off , now she wanted to get away 
far away from me but I was in no mood to let her go kept pumping my rod to bring her close and 
there she was !! round n plump !! All in her full bodied glory
shining like a floating Moon ----> a 20+kg Giant Trevally some 25
feet away right in front of me , I called out 2 times to my man friday
for assistance with the gaff and not getting any response I had just
looked behind me towards my partner ::::::::: and that was the moment (
two seconds) the shrewd beauty was waiting for ! She dashed in to the
rocks and I tried to control her but then she had already entered her
rocky fortress and instantly severed the strongest part of the common
link between us " my wire leader "
My heart sank to the pit of my stomach as I turned back nursing my hurt pride
and the only solace I found was that I had hooked her good enough she will be carrying my lure for quite sometime and she will always remember her 2 minute affair with the lion
My partner declared that he was keeping the broken wire leader as a souvenir, I obliged although I had plans of placing a monstrous beauty on his lap as a token of gratitude for inviting me here in Kanyakumari and being such a good host, may be some other day
some other time I will do it INSHA'ALLAH
Within five minutes I was back with a more stronger wire leader and the casting went on for more than an hour until maruthu said (American accent } " This place is having lots of fish! Then why are they not biting man ?? " I smiled and said " don’t you think they all went to see their Grandma who was injured by the lion " it happens most of the times when you hook a fish and disturbance in the water caused by the struggling fish , spooks the others and they either stop feeding or leave the area - end of day 1
Morning day 2 - Again I ventured out into the deep blue sea in search of King fish , this time the sea is more rough and more windy our boat is repeatedly tossed up n down while riding the mighty waves ,I find comfort in this song

I look around at the crew trying to read their faces , looking for signs of any worry , there were none ! They all looked gay to me
hey ! Wait a minute ! I know some of you naughty fellas are smiling .
( I mean --> Gay =happy-merry - cheerful - jolly - joyful - blithe -
mirthful ) ok ! Lets go back to the boat situation now my fishy partner is nauseated 
he begins chumming I start hoping that at least this draws the kingfish closer to us 
but to no avail !
All boats turn back at high noon including ours ,Kingfish season is
now officially closed in this area , from tomorrow the boats will be
pulled up on shore , my partner is delighted to see land and we relax for the rest of the day
Morning day 3- we decide to explore a rocky place nearby and again no catches
in the evening we head to the place where I lost the Big Beauty,
maruthu has reached early at 3.30pm and was casting under the scorching
sun of course he was rewarded with a nice barracuda & a 1/2 kg
trevally
we arrive at 5pm and begin casting the sea seems to be in an angry
mood , we are being repeatedly showered n splashed from head to toe by
the raging huge waves that crash thunderously on the rocks I am still
hoping to hook another big beauty when a fat grouper takes my lure and
is punished for doing so , my host is happy that I got a decent
size yummy looking grouper , I was not pleased with the catch as I have
come here for something special looks like after the monstrous hook up the word had spread along the southern coastline " Run the Lion is here" ha haa haaa " at the sound of my name Fish Tremble "
Day 4 is the last day for us , maruthu has left for Bangalore last night and we also decide not to fish and go shopping to Nagercoil and also check out the best food in town
we start packing by evening as we will be leaving early morning the next day
I left Kanyakumari with only one thought " I'll be back ! Someday whenever Time n Tide allows me "

I had to shake it alone in one corner

Basking in the golden Twilight
On the way at night 9.45pm my train stopped at Krishnarajapuram station and Venky was waiting on the platform to meet me
So sweeeet of him to come even when my train was scheduled to halt only for 5 minutes , we hurriedly shook hands, embraced each other , took a few pics together and could not chat enough when the Bloody train began to move
and we said goodbye . Venky my friend we met only for five minutes but
it meant a lot to me and I value & appreciate your coming to the
station at such odd hour only to meet me

for fishing when Dr Aamir visits from Gujarat , Christoper Rodricks from Bangalore , Omesh from Pune ,Atul Patil from Pune , Junaid from Belgaum ,& Dr Gunalan from Malaysia comes to Murud I play host and guide them and when I go to the south Mr fernando decides to host me and Venky & Maruthu are there by my side. Guys this is that special quality of us anglers as a community we respect , value & help each other to indulge in fishy acts

not disclose it to any soul on this planet , even if Miss world comes to seduce me to know your spot , I will enjoy first and point her towards Sri lankan waters

A million thanks to my Host and his Family for making this trip possible in the shortest of time and being a good host .
You guys have seen me wearing garlands of Barramundi and here is just one fish caught from 2135kms journey , this is Fishing ! so never lose heart , if you win every time then you won't value the win, Fish or no Fish we anglers always enjoy every part of our fishy acts
I remember a fishy saying " The Fishing was Good ; it was the catching that was Bad
" Had a wonderful time in Kanyakumari InshaAllah I will succeed in
enticing and holding a Southern Beauty in my arms someday
