Fishing again with Aamir Bhavnagari

...

.........Fishing again with  Aamir Bhavnagari

Just a few days back Wifey complained to me that she is kinda bored of always seeing the mangrove jacks in her kitchen this time she wanted a barra , I quietly ignored her but now even lionheart junior II had joined in and demanded to see a barra , making the most of the situation wifey teasingly declared " forget it son !! your dad has forgotten how to catch a barra or maybe he is afraid of them "
in a south indian tone I too shot back some dailogues
" No Fear My Dear !!
Never under yestimate I, Me, Myself & Lionheart
No Job is Tough if the Fee is Enough "

" if you agree to clean all the fish that I catch and cook me some FISH BIRYANI then I'll get a barra for you" and it was agreed  she always agrees first and then declines to clean n cut them .the ones in the range of 3-6kg are best for the dish mentioned above, I had initially thought of going to murud and hunt for kavla barras but then to my delight the Jolly Good Doctor called after a few days

Not even a month had completed since I first introduced the  Murrell catcher of Gujarat to Saltwater fishing in Murud now once again he expressed his desire to dip his lures and hook some beauties Very Happy but this time he wanted to do it in Konkan & I agreed in a blink of the eye Very Happy  he straight away reached Panvel railway station and I was all ready and packed waiting for him with my car , our trip started at night heading towards my birthplace somewhere in konkan , driving at night was not an easy task with the dense fog limiting visibility to only a mere 20 feet , on the way we stopped several times to release hot water in the cold December night and once for a midnight snack which consisted of homemade Shami Kebabs , bread and piping hot Chai from a local shop
this was the first time driving thru the night I did not hear any funky pop music or old melodious songs to kill time , instead we discussed and exchanged lots of valuable info the whole night and reached by morning and I parked right at a fishing point , our camp was still an hours drive away but we wanted to fish first and hit camp later meanwhile our host called up to say that breakfast was ready and he was waiting so I had to tell him we will be late but in time for lunch

At my fishing point everything looked good, the color of the water, the water temperature, the sea was gentle ,the wind was blowing in the right direction and even the Barometer was pointing to good times  I remembered the updates from my angler friends of murud complaining of missing bites due to cold water but thats not going to convince two eager anglers with itchy rods
With the Almighty LORD's name we started our casting and very soon I hooked and landed a barra and again another few casts another barra was landed the mood was Euphoric for both of us
Now Aamir who casting from another rock was itching to hook one too, he asked me " Sayed bhai can I cast from where you are standing ?? immediately stepping aside I said " sure why not go ahead get them out partner " { Guests are God sent and it was a Pleasure and honor that he choose to trust me and travel more than a 1000kms from Gujarat to konkan only to fish with me and I had to make sure that he has a memorable time that he can always look back and feel proud of }
Aamir too lost no time and hooked one barra and it was landed, after taking the pics once again he hooked another barra ,now the both of us got two barras each . Guys believe me  Aamir was so happy on his first Saltwater catch and that too a BARRAMUNDI and he landed two of them within ten minutes he was in the clouds minus the redbull now had to convince the Dr to stop fishing and have some breakfast as the last time we ate something was at 3am " but the fish are Biting" said the excited Doctor I said " yes and they will still keep biting after sometime also, let us first bite our Breakfast partner Bhuke pet bhajan nahin hota " breakfast was of fruits and biscuits and once again we joined the action both of us were pulling barra after barra and then I hooked a Cracker of a
Jew Fish (Ghol ) which gave a nice run but was landed with a some effort
Day-1 in the first two hours of fishing 8 barras and one Jew Fish (Ghol ) was landed .some of the locals call it ghol , score --> doc=4 Barras , lion =4 Barras,
Jew Fish (Ghol )
Day-2-3 Aamir landed trevallys , Mangrove Jacks and barras, two of the trevallys where deliciously cooked by my host while I got busy in hooking the Mjs

In 3days of fishing we had a Blast in Konkan
10 Barramundis = Dr--> 5 , lion--> 5
1 Croaker --> lion
4 Trevallys ---> Dr --->all 4
15 Mangrove Jacks were caught = Dr-->5 , lion-->10
TOTAL = 30 fish
The Doc is all praises for the Hamma lures which were a hit for him one can imagine him sing the hit song{ from the film Bombay} hamma hamma hamma and lure the fish out of the rocks
On day four as we were about to leave the camp the Doc declared that on arrival he got 4 barras now he wants a parting gift as well and "One Last Cast , One Last Cast " was the request again we stopped at the spot where he got his early bird gift of 4 barras ,now this time the sea was pretty rough but it gave our Mr Murrell a nice big MJ as a parting gift and we reached Mumbai by sunset and that same night  Aamir boarded a Gujarat bound train with some fish and lots & lots of Fishy memories from our beautiful Konkan
Guys It gives me immense pleasure to Declare that  Aamir is a Hardcore Salty now

Fishing with a guest from Pune

.........................................................................................................................

I always say Fishing is a Madness …… in my signature and it is this madness that helps me connect with many great like minded people who share the same passion about fishing from across states and countries ,
So Continuation of my Mission Conversion ......

some days back Omesh had decided to introduce Atul Patil  to me and salwater fishing as well
, Atul is a freshwater Angler and a Businessman from Pune and so a brief weekend trip to murud was planned even though Omesh having a nasty cold was hell bent on making the trip but sadly had to turn back halfway from khopoli when the viral fever heavily overpowered his fishing fever and Atul was left alone driving towards murud , he reached on Saturday morning and the day and half was spent fishing. got some , lost some
part of the catch was deliciously cooked by Atul who ruled my kitchen and I was happy to assist him altough I know cooking but when a good chef is around I automatically forget how to cook

one encounter worth mentioning was when we were returning from trolling and the boat was slowly heading back to base and our lures were wrigling out behind , atul got a strike but lost it after a few seconds then something very big just hit my lure at a great speed almost shaking the rod off my hands the boat was stopped but the run continued and my 7strand wire leader that was already weakened by the barbaric strike soon gave way everyone on the boat {boatman included } was rendered speechless my Australian deep diver was forever lost in action a big GT or a 15kg Rawas or maybe somethin else only GOD Almighty knows the truth anyway this is life you win some you lose some although I know where they are but have no mad intentions of hooking the stubborn rubber bodied big mamas out there , this lion prefers the P.Y.T { Pretty Young Things } they are the real yummy delicacy and he will only continue luring them all depending on the surge of urge

Atul with his jointed rapala

Sunday afternoon Atul left Murud with Fish and Fishy memories now all we can do is just wait eagerly and watch Atul and his actions in the coming months then only we all will know how deep the Saltwater Bug has Bitten him

Aamir's first Saltwater experience

{The following trip report has been written by my Angler friend  Aamir Bhavnagari from -Gujrat}

After months of pleading, I was finally invited to fish the murud waters. although it was very difficult for me to take time out, this opportunity was not to be missed so i made a two day trip to the lions den. Omesh Moorjani a Market Research Analyst from pune  joined us early in the morning after a night long journey from pune.

our first day was at a very beautiful place. we went on two bikes through rough and hilly terrain and sometimes between thick growth of trees and bushes where no four wheeler can go. our journey ended at a secluded tree where we had to hide our bikes behind bushes to avoid unnecessary attention. then began our 1 hr trek up the mountain through knee high grass and wild berry trees. the leading man had to continously wave a stick in the grass to avoid stepping on snakes. there was a wonderful view from the top. can't post the pics of that place( oath of secrecy). now started our downhill journey sliding over thorny bushes and loose stones.(i am amazed what a man will do to fish) finally we reached the secret spot where the mountain kisses the deep blue sea. this is a rocky table surrounded by deep emerald green water ideal location for rocky shore fishing.

excitedly i started casting while omesh decided to catch some sleep after the night long journey. after a few casts, i had a strong pull on my hamma lure and the fish started taking line suddenly the lure came off. i probably didnt set the hook properly in the excitement. i saw many mjs and groupers following my lure but tutned back at the last moment. lure fishing wasnt very productive in the afternoon so sayedbhai rigged a sardine on a paternoster rig and promptly landed a 2lb grouper which was quickly released. around 4pm a nice mj struck right at my feet. after a brief fight it was landed on the rock but as luck would have it , the lure came off and a wave took it back.

although i wanted to stay back for another day, we were running out of food and water plus we had to cross the mountain and forest before dark; so it was decided to call it a day. we might make a future camping and fishing trip to fully explore the areas potential.

the next morning we went to another place where sayedbhai caught a small mj on his second cast. i got a nice strike but failed to land the fish. i happened to get the maximum number of strikes but failed to land any (something horriblly wrong in the hook setting dept) in the evening we tried trolling without any luck. the area around murud is heavily netted and a visit to the local fish market shows their meager catch. that afternoon sayedbhai fried the mj in special masala and served it piping hot with steamed rice. delicious!!!!

thank you sayedbhai once again for the wonderful trip and the pains you took for getting me into fish. plan a trip to my neck of the woods and give me a chance to be your host

here are some of the pictures.......

                          abandon all vehicles .... hiking starts from here
