Elusive Monsters of Murud
As usual this year too after much efforts I finally freed myself from the work load and headed straight to my den in Murud Janjira along with my family to escape the Mumbai summer heat , took along all my fishing gear ignoring the angry looks of wifey as I had promised to do less fishing and spend more time at home . Cause whenever I take a look from my backward at the sea and if the weather is good ,the water,wind etc I automatically find myself on the way to the fishing spots .this may the weather played spoilsport many a times { too much windy and high waves from dawn to dusk } plus the harsh sun I did most of my fishing at night mostly alone in my backward beach which has a deep channel running from the sea towards the Dighi port
One such night this may while fishing in the backward well past midnight my reel went Krrrrrrrrrrrrrr I quickly took the rod from the holder and set the hook after pausing for a moment it started the run again I knew it was something big could feel its power after around 4 minutes of running right and left it was in no mood to come closer giving a tough fight and taking more braid on every run I decided to tighten the drag ,in the rush of Adrenaline little did I realise that the drag was full tight and when the tug came from the other side it was hard and the rod snapped ! Whatever it was ! it EARNED MY RESPECT and I immediately fished out my knife and cut the braid and headed back home with a broken rod and hurt pride { Hey guys any guesses what it might be? } although I think it may be a big sting ray or a grouper
spent the next two days repairing my rod { berkley 14footer teles } my lucky wand is a few inches short
but the magic is the same
